Why do I cloth diaper?

Hmmm...this is a good question. I NEVER thought I would ever cloth diaper (cd for short). Too much trouble, too much work, no one I know has ever done it. Plus, I would stick the baby with the safety pin! I didn't start out with cloth on Garrett. He was a sposie baby all the way. Then, one day when he was 18 months old, I decided to give it a try. I bought a few used from a forum that I chat on and the rest is history.

Garrett was in cloth for probably around five months. I had a few fuzzi bunz, some bummis super whisper wraps, a few chinese prefolds, and a couple other cloth diapers that were given to me. So, I know you are wondering why Garrett was only in cloth for 5 months. Did he potty train early? Nope (we are starting that saga this weekend). I got pregnant and morning sickness hit. I couldn't handle the smell of our homemade wipes, much less a cloth diaper that I had to get the poop off of. So, it was back to sposies. Horrible, horrible mistake. Now, he won't even wear a cd!

I decided that I would cd Emma from the get go. Well, after the meconium diapers in the hospital and after her umbilical cord fell off (although you don't have to wait for that to happen). We started out with infant chinese prefolds (about 3 dozen) and 5 bummis super whisper wraps (covers). And 3 or 4 snappis (instead of safety pins). These were the best way to go for newborn pees and poops. Especially while breastfeeding!!! As she got older we branched out to wonderoos and fuzzi bunz. Wonderoos are one sized dipes that you stuff with a insert, whereas fuzzi bunz are a specific size which you also stuff.

Over the past 8 1/2 months, I have decided that fuzzi bunz are my favorite. You can get them in all colors! My favorite on Emma is lavender! And the wonderful thing is the poop just plops into the toilet! I do have a diaper sprayer to help out, but my husband has YET to get it installed. But he is tonight! I have a feeling I will need it while potty training.

I wash my dipes every 3 or 4 days. We have plenty to get us through wash day. I do have the occasional sposie for going to daycare in (they don't cd) and for out and about...if I'm too lazy to take the cd.

I also knit her wool picky pants for overnight. In fact, I still need to get started on her pink lemonade dyed wool (see a previous post) but I just haven't had time. :(

I'm sure you are all confused about cloth diapers, but if you want more information a wonderful site is www.cottonbabies.com .
